Meralco Resumes Disconnections as NCR Plus Shifts to GCQ

Plus, some tips on how to conserve electricity.

Meralco said it would resume disconnections after Metro Manila and urrounding provinces transitioned into general community quarantine or GCQ "with heightened restrictions."

Starting this week, the country's largest power distributor said consumers with unpaid overdue balances will receive disconnection notices again.

Those who will not be able to pay their bills in full are advised to reach out to Meralco to avoid standard disconnection procedures.

The so-called National Capital Region Plus bubble shifted to GCQ "with heightened restrictions" on May 15 until May 31.

Meralco had extended its no-disconnection policy until May 14 after the NCR Plus bubble was placed under modified enhanced community quarantine.

The company earlier said that it would increase its rates for May.

Here are some tips on how to conserve energy from Meralco:

  • Clean your aircon filters every two weeks to ensure optimal performance
  • Set your aircon's thermostat to 25 degrees Celsius to maximize efficiency
  • Ensure that your refrigerator’s air vents are not blocked to keep its compressor from working harder
  • Unplug appliances when not in use
