The Philippines will tighten COVID restrictions by one notch to Alert Level 3 in Metro Manila starting Jan. 3 until Jan. 15 after daily infections doubled in the last three days.
Alert Level 3 means smaller operating capacities for restaurant dine-in, cinemas, and gyms. Interzonal and intrazonal travel are still allowed. Face-to-face classes, funfairs or peryas, and contact sports will be prohibited.
Cabinet Sec. Karlo Nograles warned the public of a possible spike in COVID-19 cases in the next few days due to the spread of the Omicron coronavirus variant.
"There is high probability of local transmission of Omicron," Nograles told reporters in a New Year's Eve press briefing.
