Parts of Metro Manila May Remain Under ECQ After May 15

Some cities will remain under ECQ while others may be downgraded to GCQ.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said it's likely not all of Metro Manlla will remain under ECQ after May 15. 

He made the comments at today's Laging Handa public briefing,

"Hindi mananatili sa ECQ ang buong Metro Manila after May 16. Hindi rin naman magiging-GCQ. It will be granular, it will be surgical.” 

Roque revealed the Metro Manila Council will make an official recommendation for a 15-day extension of the ECQ in Metro Manila. Its approval, however, will most probably happen on Monday, May 11, and will be based on relevant data. 

"Sa Lunes po magkakaroon ng approval ang ating Presidente kung anong mangyayari sa atin ng May 15," he said. 

It was originally reported that while the council can recommend an extension, Parañaque Mayor and the council’s chairman Edwin Olivarez said the decision lies with the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID). 

The Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) has been in effect in Metro Manila since March 16.
