Metro Manila Bubble Stays Under GCQ for June 2021

The latest on quarantines.

Metro Manila and surrounding provinces will remain under general community quarantine or GCQ  "with restrictions" until June 30 as the government seeks to reopen more industries while ramping up COVID-19 vaccination efforts.

From June 1 to 30, the capital region, Laguna, Rizal, Cavite, and Bulacan will stay under GCQ as announced by President Rodrigo Duterte.

Here are the other quarantine classifications for June:

MECQ (June 1-15, 2021)

  • City of Santiago
  • Apayao
  • Benguet
  • Ifugao
  • Puerto Princesa City
  • Iloilo City
  • Zamboanga City
  • Zamboanga Sibugay
  • Zamboanga del Sur
  • Zamboanga del Norte
  • Cagayan de Oro City
  • Butuan City
  • Agusan del Sur

GCQ (June 1-30, 2021)

  • Baguio City
  • Kalinga
  • Mountain Province
  • Abra
  • Isabela
  • Nueva Vizcaya
  • Quirino
  • Batangas
  • Quezon
  • Iligan City
  • Davao City
  • Lanao del Sur
  • Cotabato City

MGCQ (June 1-30, 2021)

  • Rest of the Philippines

The government eased COVID-19 restrictions in the Greater Manila Area last May 15 after a month of strict community quarantine following the decline in COVID-19 cases. The easing, albeit with "heightened restrictions," restored some 200,000 to 300,000 more jobs, Trade Sec. Ramon Lopez had said.

Some 1.5 million jobs were lost during the enhanced community quarantine in the Greater Manila Area in April, Lopez earlier said with around 500,000 restored when the quarantine was slightly eased to MECQ.

By June, authorities said they hoped to extend the country's COVID-19 vaccination program to economic frontliners with the expected arrival of more jabs. At present, the vaccination program covers health workers, senior citizens, and persons with comorbidities such as diabetes and heart disease.
