It looks like Metro Manila won’t be under a modified enhanced community quarantine period (MECQ) for much longer.

According to a report by ABS-CBN News, the Metro Manila Council (MMC) will recommend that the nation’s capital shift into a general community quarantine period (GCQ) come June 1, 2020. This is in line with the MMC’s May 16 to May 31 time period for MECQ.

According to Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) general manager Jojo Garcia, the recommendation will be submitted to the government’s Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF), which will decide whether not it will be adopted.

Under GCQ, most businesses and services are permitted to operate as long as safety protocols such as social distancing and the wearing of masks are followed. Public transportation is also allowed, albeit under strict guidelines such as limited passenger capacity and the regular disinfection of vehicles.

This is a developing story, so expect updates. Do you think Metro Manila will be ready to shift into GCQ by the end of the month? Let us know in the comments.
