The increase in the minimum wage in Metro Manila and Western Visayas will take effect on June 3, the Department of Labor and Employment said Wednesday as it announced looming salary hikes in three other regions too.
The National Wages and Productivity Commission, chaired by Labor Sec. Silvestre Bello III, approved on Tuesday the P33 increase in Metro Manila which brings the daily minimum wage in the capital region to P550 for non-agriculture workers and P533 for agriculture workers.
In the Western Visayas, the minimum wage in non-agriculture, industrial, and commercial establishments will increase by P55 for those with more than 10 workers, and P110 for those with 10 workers or less.
This sets the new minimum wage at P450 for those with more than 10 workers and P420 for those with 10 workers or less.

The labor department on Wednesday also announced higher minimum wages in the Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, and Caraga.
Minimum wage workers in Ilocos can expect wage increases ranging from P60 to P90 that will be given in two to three tranches, the DOLE said. This will bring the minimum wage in the region to a range of P372 to P400 from the current P282 to P340 range.
In Cagayan Valley, the approved minimum wage increase ranges from P50 to P75 that will be given in two to three tranches. This will bring the minimum wage in the region to a range of P400 to P420 from P345 to P370 in the previous Wage Order.
For the Caraga Region, the DOLE said the P30-wage hike will bring the daily minimum salary rate to P350 which will take effect once provided guidelines are met.
