Reelectionist Sen. Juan Miguel Zubiri on Saturday said he doesn't believe presidential candidate Bongbong Marcos will become a dictator, citing his kindness and his desire to uplift the lives of the Filipino people.

Zubiri joined Marcos, his running mate Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, and his fellow senatorial candidates under the UniTeam slate in their campaign rally in Manila, which coincided with a similar gathering for Vice President Leni Robredo in Pasay City.

"May nagbabatikos sa ating mahal na Apo BBM, ang sabi nila, 'Naku kapag nanalo yan, magiging diktador yan.' Sabi ko, 'Paano magiging diktador yan na napakabait niya?'" Zubiri told Marcos supporters attending the rally.

"Kapag nag-uusap kami, ang gusto lang talaga niya, ang nasa puso niya na umasenso tayong lahat at umangat sa kahirapan," he added.

Zubiri said he supports Marcos for president because of his goal to unite the Filipino people.

"Hindi na tayo mag-aaway-away. Hindi katulad ng ibang kandidato, palagi tayong inaaway," he added.

Zubiri formally endorsed Marcos for president when the late dictator's son made a campaign stop in Bukidnon, the senator's home province. His endorsement prompted fellow Senators Panfilo Lacson and Vicente Sotto III to drop him as their guest senatorial candidate.

Zubiri is also a guest candidate in Robredo's and Sen. Manny Pacquiao's slate. Despite openly endorsing Marcos, Pacquiao said he would not remove Zubiri from his slate to ensure that Mindanao and Visayas will be represented in the Senate.
