MiniStop Philippines said Thursday it would change its store name to Uncle John's, in a tribute to the late industrialist John Gokongwei Jr.

At the same time, the rebrand is a nod to its best-selling product, fried chicken, which is  also named after the Gokongwei Group founder.

MiniStop Philippines general manager R Suresh Ramalinggam announced the new name in a memo to Gokongwei Group employees.

All other brand elements will bear the Uncle John's brand name starting Jan. 1, 2023, it said in a statement.

Robinsons Retail took full control of MiniStop Philippines from its Japanese partner that exited the country in early 2022.

Editor's Note: MiniStop Philippines parent Robinsons Retail and Summit Media, which publishes Reportr, are both part of the Gokongwei Group.
