All trains on the MRT-3 line were equipped with new air conditioning units, management said Friday.

A total of 216 new units were installed in 72 Light Rail Vehicles along with the 20 newly overhauled wagons running on the railway line. Each wagon uses three aircon units.

Of that number, 120 were were bought and installed by Sumitomo-MHI-TESP, with the last unit in place last January in an overhauled wagon.

The aircon installation is part of the MRT-3 rehabilitation program under the Department of Transportaion. Other upgrades include the installation of CCTV cameras, increasing train running speed, and improving surveillance across all stations.
