Heil Hitler? NCCA Takes Down, Revises Hand Sign in 'Padayon' Campaign

It's not an ode to Nazi Germany, the agency said.

The National Commission for Culture and the Arts said it was rethinking a hand gesture tied to one of its campaigns after it drew flak on the internet for appearing like Adolf Hitler's hand salute.

The NCCA, in charge of promoting the culture and the arts, took down the photo. The gesture that brought to mind "Heil Hitler" is actually a "forward hand motion followed by a wave and accompanied by Padayon’s tag line ‘Sulong na!’ as seen in most of our video teasers", the cultural agency said.

"We are in no way encouraging or harboring Neo-Nazi beliefs/practices in the Commission. Following the comments on our earlier post, which we have already taken down, we will rethink of another hand gesture that better show our intent of moving forward," it said.

The deleted post drew strong reactions on Twitter, including journalist Inday Espina Varona. 

Filmmaker Rhadem Musawah in a separate post tagged NCAA and asked, "What is happening to you?"
