Motorists passing through NLEX have to pay a higher toll starting Tuesday, May 18, its operator said as new fees take effect.

The increase is around 2% to 3% and is part of the periodic adjustment in toll rates due in 2012 and 2014, NLEX Corp said.

Based on the new toll matrix, an increase of P2, P3, and P4 should be paid by Class 1 (regular vehicles), Class 2 (buses and small commercial trucks), and Class 3 vehicles (large trucks) respectively under the open system.

The open system, where a flat rate is charged per entry, includes Quezon City, Caloocan City, Valenzuela City, Malabon City, Navotas City, Meycauayan City, and Marilao, Bulacan.

For end-to-end travel, increases are P6, P14, and P16 for Class 1, Class 2, and Class 3 vehicles respectively.
