The Department of Transportation will stricty implement by Dec. 1 cashless toll collection using AutoSweep and Easytrip RFID systems. But what happens to motorists who can't meet the deadline?

The DOTr on Monday said the deadline was meant for toll operators. This means motorists who have yet to secure the needed stickers can still do so even past the Dec. 1 deadline.

"Ang pagkakabit po ng RFID stickers ay magpapatuloy kahit matapos ang December 2020, lalo na para sa mga first time toll users at mga bagong sasakyan," it said.

San Miguel Corp, which operates Autosweep RFID, also assured motorists that various installation sites would continue to operate to accommodate motorists who have yet to secure the needed stickers.

"Although vehicles without RFID will no longer be allowed to travel on tollways beginning Dec. 1, we will still have RFID installation in various locations, as well as continuing programs for motorists to get stickers. We will also maintain installation sites at major entry plazas. You can still secure stickers at a more convenient time, even after the deadline,” SMC President Ramon Ang said.

Here are more answers from the transportation department to common questions about RFID installation:

1. Will I be apprehended at toll gates if I don't have an RFID sticker by Dec. 1?

No. From Dec. 1, 2020 to Jan. 11, 2021 all toll gates will also serve as RFID installation sites 24/7.

Starting Jan. 12, the DOTr said it would reduce the number of toll lanes serving as stickering sites to just one or two. There will be signages to guide motorists, it added. Motorists who will still pass through the "RFID ONLY" lanes however, will be ticketed.

2. I can't book an online appointment for the RFID stickers. Can I pass through toll gates by Dec. 1?

Vehicles of motorists who don't have RFID stickers by Dec. 1, will be installed with RFID stickers when they pass by toll gates on Dec. 1.

"Kung wala kang RFID by Dec. 1, doon ka mismo sa toll gate kakabitan," the DOTr said.

3. What happens if my RFID has insufficient load? Will I be barred from passing toll gates?

For the transition period from Dec. 1, 2020 to Jan. 11, 2020, vehicles will still be allowed to pass despite insufficient load balance. You can reload your RFID account in the toll booth or be asked by toll operators to park your vehicle at the side and reload.

The transportation department also reminded motorists that installation of RFID stickers is free and load balances don't expire.
