16,044 New COVID Cases as NCR Enters First Week Under MECQ

MECQ in Metro Manila lasts until Aug. 31.

The Philippines on Sunday recorded 16,044 new cases of COVID-19 as Metro Manila entered its first week under the less restrictive MECQ.

Active COVID-19 cases in the country are now at 125,900. A total of 13,952 new recoveries and 215 new deaths were also reported.

All in all, the country has reported a total of 1,839,635 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began, of which 1,681,925 recovered and 31,810 died.

Metro Manila was downgraded to MECQ from ECQ on Saturday until Aug. 31, allowing some businesses to reopen at limited capacity. Salons, spas and gyms will remain closed as well as dine-in services.
