The Philippines on Friday logged 5,823 more COVID-19 infections as the Delta subvariant remained undetected in the country.

The day's tally brought active cases to 66,838. The Department of Health also recorded 4,748 new recoveries and 283 new deaths.

Since the start of the panemic, the Philippines logged a cumulative total of 2,745,889 infections, of which 2,637,531 recovered and 41,520 died.

Alert Level 3 in Metro Manila is expected to last until the end of October. Last Tuesday, select provinces shifted to the alert level-based quarantine system with restrictions also set to expire on Oct. 31.

The DOH earlier said local health experts were monitoring 46 sublineages of the Delta variant and have so far not detected the subvariant reported in Israel and European countries.
