The Philippines on Tuesday logged 4,393 new COVID-19 cases as local tourist destinations eased restrictions for travelers.
The day's tally brought active cases to 53,642, with 8,470 new recoveries and 135 new deaths reported.
Overall, a total of 2,765,672 COVID-19 cases have been reported since the pandemic began in March 2020, of which 2,669,953 have and 42,077 died.
Alert Level 3 in Metro Manila is expected to last unitl the end of October. Cemeteries nationwide are closed from Oct. 29 to Nov. 2 to prevent crowds during the Day of the Dead.
Tourist spots like Bohol and Baguio have dropped the RT-PCR requirement in favor of vaccination cards for travelers to boost tourism after months of shifting quarantine statuses. Boracay is set to follow suit in November once it meets its goal of vaccinating 100% of its eligible population.
The country has a goal of 1.5 million Filipinos vaccinated daily for a "happy Christmas" vaccine czar Sec. Carlito Galvez Jr. said as more jabs become available for the general public and minors.
