Vice President Leni Robredo chilled like Taylor Swift as President Rodrigo Duterte's allies and daughter Sara filed substition candidacies with alliances still uncertain at crunch time Sunday.
Robredo posted a video of her dancing with #Kakampinks to Swift's 2012 hit "22". A re-recording of the pop star's album "Red" came out on Friday and spawned hundreds of memes on social media.
"Dami nangyayari. Pero gaya ni Mareng Taylor: I don't know about you, but I'm feeling 22," Robredo said, quoting lyrics from the hit song.
"Chill lang tayo," she added.
Robredo's tweet came a few hours after the Commission on Elections received candidacy substitutions from the side of the administration.
Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio filed her bid for the vice presidency under former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo's party Lakas-CMD.
The President's top aide, Sen. Bong Go, withdrew his vice presidential bid to run for president instead. Sen. Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa also dropped his candidacy for the government's top post.
Duterte said he would also file his candidacy for vice president on Monday, setting up a possible rivalry with his own daughter, who was adopted as the running mate of Bongbong Marcos.
Rorbedo's running mate, Sen. Francis Pangilinan, said they had been expecting such last-minute substitutions, but they remain undeterred.
"Sumama po kami ni VP Leni sa halalang ito, dala ang matibay na paniwalang tanging si VP Leni ang pinaka nararapat sa pagkapangulo, lalo na’t tayo’y nasa gitna ng giyera laban sa sakit, gutom, at kawalang-trabaho," Pangilinan said on Saturday.
"Kaya kahit sino pa po ang sumali sa karera, tuloy lang po kami sa paghahanda para sa darating na kampanya," he added.
The last day of candidacy substitution for the 2022 elections is set for Monday, Nov. 15.
