Over 500,000 More AstraZeneca Doses Arrive in the Philippines

Over 500,000 doses of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine arrived in the Philippines on Friday as the country rushes inoculations to combat the spread of the hyper-contagious coronavirus Delta variant.

The latest vaccine shipment of 502,000 doses was part of the procured jabs by the private sector through a tripartite deal with the national government last year.

So far, over 3 million doses of the procured 17 million AstraZeneca jabs by the private sector have been delivered to the Philippines.

Immunization czar Sec. Carlito Galvez Jr. earlier this week said the Philippines was raising its COVID-19 vaccination target to up to 90% of its population fter the goal of herd immunity became more elusive due to the spread of the  Delta variant.

From the current vaccination target of 70% or some 77 million people, Galvez said the Philippines is now eyeing to inoculate up to 90 million people by the end of the first quarter of 2022.

The government said over 15 million people in the country have been fully vaccinated so far.
