Pacquiao Ponders Retirement, Apologizes to Fans After Loss to Ugas

Filipino boxing champ hopes he made his fans happy.

Filipino boxing legend Manny Pacquiao on Sunday apologized to his fans for losing to Cuba's Yordenis Ugas, adding he needed time to think if "I'll continue to fight or not."

Pacquiao told spectators inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada that he appreciated their effort to watch his fight despite the COVID-19 pandemic.

"I'm so thankful to the fans coming here to witness the fight live," he said in a post-match interview. "I'm sorry that we lost tonight. But I did my best and I apologize."

Asked if he would be fighting again soon, Pacquiao said: "Let me rest first and relax and make a decision if I'll continue to fight or not."

Pacquiao lost to Ugas, who was drafted at the 11th hour to replace the Filipino boxer's original opponent Errol Spence Jr., via unanimous decision.

Pacquiao said he was having a hard time in the ring as his legs felt tight.

Despite his defeat, Pacquiao hoped that he was able to make his fans happy.

"I hope in my more than 20 years in boxing, I gave you enjoyment and happiness in my career. That's boxing," he said.

"I congratulate my opponent Yordenis Ugas for making tough tonight and for winning tonight. That's boxing, let's face another tomorrow again and plan our future," he added.
