Expect a rainy week ahead in the middle of the dry season due to multiple weather systems, including a low pressure area in Mindanao, PAGASA said Tuesday.
At 3 p.m., the low pressure system was spotted 260 kilometers east northeast of Davao City and is expected to bring moderate to heavy rains over large swaths of the Visayas and Mindanao. It has a low chance of becoming a tropical cyclone, state weather forecaster Ana Clauren said.
Those living in low-lying areas and mountainous areas should be on alert for possible floods and landslides especially at night, Clauren said.
Parts of the Bicol region and Quezon province will experience moderate to heavy rains brought about by a shear line, or a narrow corridor in the atmosphere where the wind direction changes, said Clauren.
The same shear line will also bring light to moderate rains with possible thunderstorms in Metro Manila, Central Luzon, Calabarzon and Mimaropa.
The Philippines is officially in the dry season, also referred to as summer, due to the prevailing wind patterns that are mostly warm.
