Mayor Vico Sotto said Friday Pasig City residents who are working, studying or who are just staying at home that internet service will improve in the next 12 months. His reply to a Twitter post stirred a conversation on how telcos can be pushed to do better.
Sotto said he issued a city ordinance to implement a national government policy that requires fewer permits to set up cell sites. Telcos have cited the slow permit process as one of the roadblocks to improving service.
"Ang problema talaga dito ay ang kakulangan ng imprastraktura/cell site (The problem here is really the lack of infrastructure or cell site.)," Sotto said in a tweet in response to suggestions for improved mobile signal and internet services.
On Thursday, Pasig City secured gadgets that teachers and learners can use for online classes.
President Rodrigo Duterte earlier called on telecommunication companies to improve services by the end of the year, stressing the importance of mobile and online communication during the pandemic.
