PH COVID-19 Log Breaches 100K as DOH Records 5,032 New Cases Today

It’s a line that’s becoming increasingly — and dangerously — common: The country has set another record in single-day increases in COVID-19 case loads.

With 5,032 new cases tallied today, the Philippines has breached the 100,000 mark.

The total number of cases in the country is now at 103,185.

Of this Sunday’s COVID-19 cases, the Department of Health says 2,114 are fresh cases, while the remainder of 2,918 are old cases from the agency’s diagnostic backlog.

Just yesterday, the Department of Health recorded 4,963 new cases. It was only on July 8 that the Philippines hit the 50,000 mark.

Twenty deaths and thirty recoveries were also logged in today. Total deaths now stand at 2,059, while total recoveries number 65,557.

Today, President Rodrigo Duterte met with his Cabinet to address the concerns of the medical community regarding the country's precarious healthcare situation brought on by COVID-19. Palace spokesperson Harry Roque said that he will update the public on what transpired in the meeting as soon as possible.
