The Philippines on Thursday received 3 million more doses of the China's Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine as it ramps up inoculations to slow the spread of the more transmissible coronavirus Delta variant.

The shipment, procured by the government, arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport before 6 p.m. Sinovac jabs make up the majority of the Philippines' COVID-19 vaccine supply.

According to the National Task Force on COVID-19 response, 45,940,390 doses of vaccines have been delivered to the Philippines as of Thursday.

So far, the Philippines has fully vaccinated some 12.8 million of its people against a target of at least 50 million by November this year.

The country is rushing inoculations as hospitals feel the strain of the Delta variant. For over a week, the Philippines has been reporting more than 10,000 new COVID-19 cases daily.
