Philippine Airlines Updates International Arrival Protocols due to Omicron

Countries are tightening border controls to thwart the new variant.

Philippine Airlines on Monday released updated travel protocols for its arriving passengers after the country shut its borders to foreign tourists in step to halt the entry of the Omicron coronavirus variant.

The flag carrier also advised travelers on what they can do should their flights get postponed due to the changes in travel restrictions.

Quarantine protocols for arrivals from Green and Yellow countries:

Fully vaccinated Filipinos and eligible foreigners

With negative RT-PCR test taken within 72 hours before departure

  • Facility based quarantine until release of negative results
  • Swabbing on the 3rd day of quarantine
  • Self-monitoring until the 14th day of arrival

Without a negative RT-PCR test

  • Facility based quarantine until release of negative results
  • Swabbing on the 3rd day of quarantine
  • Home quarantine until the 10th day from arrival

Unvaccinated, partially vaccinated

  • Facility based quarantine until release of negative results
  • Swabbing on the 7th day of quarantine
  • Home quarantine until the 14th day from arrival

Minors regardless of origin country are required to follow the testing and quarantine requirements of their guardians or parents.

Quarantine protocols for arrivals from Red countries:

Only Filipinos returning to the country via repatriation and Bayanihan Flights may be allowed entry, and are subject to the following protocols:

  • Mandatory 14-day facility-based quarantine
  • Swabbing on the 7th day of quarantine

“All passengers regardless of nationality merely transiting through the Red List countries shall not be deemed as having come from or having been to said country if they stayed in the airport the whole time and were not cleared for entry into such country by its immigration authorities,” the advisory said.

Passengers with affected flights can choose one out of three options: Convert to travel credit, refund, or rebook.

Converting to travel credit is equivalent to the unused net value and unused taxes of your ticket. You can also choose to refund the cost of your ticket, with refund service fees waived.

If you plan to rebook your flight, take note of the following:

  • With available space within 60 days after the original flight
  • Same booking class within the same or higher within the same cabin class
  • Within the period of validity of the ticket with no additional charge
