Over 14,000 New COVID Cases for Second Straight Day: DOH

Active cases breach 100,000.

Active COVID-19 cases in the Philippines are now over 100,000 after the country logged more than 14,000 new infections for the second consecutive day.

The Department of Health reported 14,749 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday --- the second highest daily tally since the pandemic began in March 2020 --- bringing the total of active cases to 102,748.

A total of 10,720 new recoveries were also reported, while another 270 people died of COVID-19.

All in all, the country has tallied a total of 1,741,616 COVID-19 cases, of which 1,608,528 have recovered and 30,340 died.

Metro Manila was placed under ECQ on Aug. 6 to curb the spread of the highly contagious Delta coronavirus variant. It is expected to end on Aug. 20.

While many areas in the country are under stricter quarantine classifications, vaccination efforts continue. As of Aug. 12, the Philippines has fully vaccinated over 12 million individuals, or around 17% of the eligible target population.
