The Philippines, battling the hyper-contagious Delta variant, tallied a new all-time high 18,332 COVID-19 cases on Monday, breaking a previous record that was set just three days ago.
The day's jump trumped the previous record of 17,231 cases last Aug. 20 and brought the total active cases to 130,350 and the cumulative total since the pandemic began to 1,857,646.
There were 151 deaths and 13,794 recoveries bringing the running totals to 31,961 and 1,695,335, respectively.
Last Saturday, authorities scaled back the lockdown in Manila by one notch to MECQ from ECQ, allowing more businesses to reopen at limited capacities.
