The Philippines on Tuesday logged 12,067 new COVID-19 infections as the Department of Health said that caseloads would stay elevated due to the hyper-contagious Delta variant.

The day's jump brings active cases to 127,703 and the cumulative total to 1,869,691 cases since the pandemic began in March 2020.

Another 303 people died from the respiratory disease, while 14,565 recovered, bringing the totals to 32,264 and 1,709,724, respectively.

Metro Manila and other high-risk areas are under MECQ, a notch lower than the strictest ECQ, which is expected to last until Aug. 31. To ramp up vaccinations, cities nearing their vaccination targets have opened up inoculation to non-residents.
