The Philippines on Monday received two million more doses of Sinovac vaccines as record daily infections fueled by the Delta variant put pressure on the government to speed up innoculations to gradually reopen the economy.

With the immunization target raised to 90% of the 109 million population by early 2022, the country has so far fully immunized 16.7 million and administed a total of 38.6 million doses, official data showed. China-made Sinovac accounts for 33 million of the total inventory.

President Rodrigo Duterte is expected to to decide this week on the lowering of Metro Manila's quarantine status to GCQ with localized lockdowns and alert systems after the lack of rules caused a one-week postponement.

So far, about 57% of Metro Manila's target population have been fully vaccinated, MMDA chairman Benhur Abalos said Saturday.
