Through the Philippine Identification System or PhilSys National ID, Filipinos are given a valid proof of identity that contains both basic information and added security functions such as biometrics.

Also known as the PhilID, the card will serve as sufficient proof of identity and age for all government and private transactions as ordered by President Rodrigo Duterte.

Getting a National ID will make government transactions easier such as for applications for social welfare programs, passport applications, and other government-issued IDs.

Here's a guide on everything you need to know about getting a National ID--from registration to delivery tracking, and verification:

How to register

1. Register online

The registration process is two-step starting with online registration. Visit the register.philsys.gov.ph website to fill out the application form and book your preferred schedule for biometrics.

Once you finish the online registration, you'll receive your Application Reference Number or a QR code that you have to present during your biometrics appointment.

2. Go to your assigned registration center

Go to your assigned registration site on the day of your appointment.  Registration centers include LGU offices and malls.

Present your  Application Reference Number or QR code and have your basic information validated.

On the day of your appointment, you have to undergo fingerprint and iris scans, a front-facing photograph, and validation of supporting documents at a registration center.

Don't forget to bring supporting documents too such as your birth certificate, passport, or government-issued ID. For a list of supporting documents, visit the PhilSys website.

How to track the delivery status

Once you finish the registration process for the National ID or PhilID card, you might be curious to know how long you have to wait for the delivery.

Here's a guide on how you can track its status:

1. Take note of your transaction number

After registering for your PhilID card, you will be given a transaction slip that contains your National ID transaction number. This slip is confidential and should not be shared with anyone or on social media.

Once you've found your transaction slip, take note of your transaction number. You'll use this to track the delivery of your PhilID card.

2. Go to the PHLPost tracking website

Visit the PHLPost tracking website (http://tracking.phlpost.gov.ph/) to track your PhilID card delivery.

3. Track your PhilID card delivery

Input your transaction number on the PHLPost tracking website and click the "Track" button to check the status of your PhilID card. If the website informs you that your PhilID card is "NOT FOUND", don't panic.

The Philippine Statistics Authority said this simply means that your PhilID card is still for dispatching to the Post Office. This does not mean that your PhilID card is missing.

Take note also that the delivery of the PhilID card is free. Individuals who have queries about their PhilID card can email [email protected] or call the PhilSys hotline 1388.

How to verify the legitimacy

Once you've received your national ID you can verify it online through the verify.philsys.gov.ph website.

It is currently available for Android devices, laptops, and desktop computers with an operating system of Windows 11 or macOS High Sierra or higher according to the PSA.

1. Go to the verification website

Visit the verification website and click the "Scan QR Code" button to scan the QR code printed at the back of the national ID.

2. Check verification message

Once the ID has been successfully scanned, a message that reads "PhilID QR Code SUCCESSFULLY VERIFIED" will appear. The following information of the cardholder shall also be shown according to the PSA:

  • Last Name
  • First Name
  • Middle Name
  • Suffix
  • Sex
  • Date of Birth
  • Place of Birth
  • PhilSys Card Number (PCN)
  • Date of Issuance

If the verification is unsuccessful, the website will show a message that reads "REVOKED or INACTIVE" or that the national ID is "NOT RECOGNIZED".

The PSA said this could mean that the QR Code is either damaged or the information encoded has been tampered with. To address the problem, you can bring the ID card to the nearest PhilSys Registration Center or send an email at [email protected].
