Residents of a coastal village in Indonesia's Java island waded in blood red floods over the weekend -- the culprit? the waters touched a batik factory, causing the dye to bleed into the streets.

People in Pekalongan City waded in ankle deep waters that also turned their feet slightly red, based on photos from Agence France-Presse.

Java is the birthplace of batik, a method oy dyeing fabrics that is used in Indonesia's traditional garments.

Batik shirts are to Indonesian men what the Barong Tagalog is to Filipinos.

For women, it is used in the kebaya, like the one worn by 2018 Miss Universe Catriona Gray during one of her trips to Indonesia during her reign.
