LOOK: Pork, Chicken 'Holiday' Leaves Some Market Stalls Empty

Vendors are protesting the price cap on meat.

Pork and chicken vendors left their stalls in Quezon City's Balintawak market empty on Monday to protest the price ceiling on meats that took effect on the same day.

Last week, President Rodrigo Duterte signed an Exevutive Order that capped prices of pork and chicken sold within the National Capital Region to help consumers cope.

Agriculture Sec. William Dar's recommendation was followed, with the following prices implemented on pork and chicken items:

  • P270/kg for kasim and pigue
  • P300/kg for liempo
  • P160/kg for a dressed chicken

Prices in January have soared to up to P400 for a kilogram in pork.
