The Philippines has new doctors, with 3,538 out of 4,704 passing the Physician Licensure Examination, the Professional Regulation Commission said Thursday.

The new physicians will be sworn in as the world battles the COVID-19 pandemic. New infections have slowed in the Philippines while Europe and the U.S. battle fresh waves.

This year's topnotcher is Jomel Garcia Lapides from the University of the Philippines-Manila. Tied at second place are Patrick Joseph Amunategui Mabugat of the University of Saint La Salle and Adrian Emmanuel Diago Teves from the University of Santo Tomas.
