Cake, Pizza Top Filipinos' Food Delivery Orders During the Pandemic

Pizza and cake topped Filipinos' food delivery orders in the pandemic year 2020, a trend report released Thursday showed, highlighting the top cravings during a year of lockdowns.

Pizza was searched for nearly six million times on GrabFood in 2020 while cake orders grew by 2.6 times in the same year, Grab's Philippine Food Trend Reports 2021 showed.

Some of Filipinos' favorite orders on GrabFood are pizza at 70%, cake at 56%, and pasta at 33%.

More Filipinos relied on food delivery services in 2020, the report showed with GrabFood's monthly active users doubling last year compared to 2019.

"Families with children are the main consumers of food delivery services," the report said.

"Young families welcome the convenience of food delivery, which saves them the hassle of meal prep and cleaning up especially on busy weekdays," it added.

Among food delivery patrons, 65% are aged 24 to 44 while 53% are married with kids.

The main reasons for ordering food via delivery are: 

  1. To satisfy cravings for food I can’t cook
  2. No time to cook
  3. No need to worry about traffic parking

  1. Fast food
  2. Pizza
  3. Cake
  4. Bakery
  5. Chinese 
  6. Doughnuts
  7. Milk tea
  8. Burgers
  9. Coffee
  10. Chicken
