Plantation Bay Faces Gov't Probe Over Viral Incident

Sanctions loom if probe warrants.

The Department of Tourism said Wednesday it was investigating Plantation Bay & Resort Spa over a viral incident involving a mother and her child with autism.

If the inquiry warrants, there will be "proper administrative sanctions" against the posh resort located in Mactan, Cebu, Sec. Berna Romulo Puyat said in a statement.

Hashtag #BoycottPlantationBay trended as the resort drew criticisms from concerned groups including Autism Society Philippines who said the resort management's response to the complaint displayed a lack of understanding of people with special needs.

The DOT said it would coordinate with the Department of Justice for "proper action" under the Disability Law, which the aggrieved party could pursue.
