The first trainset for the PNR Clark Phase 1, which is seen to reduce travel time between Tutuban and Malolos, arrived in Manila on Sunday, the Department of Transportation said.
Currently at the Port of Manila, the first trainset consists of 8 cars and will undergo customs clearance before they are transferred to the Malanday Depot in Valenzuela in December.
The Philippines bought a total of 13 trainsets from the Japan Transport Engineering Company and Sumitomo Corp. The second trainset is set to arrive in the second quarter of 2022.
Once operational, PNR Clark Phase 1 is seen to ferry 300,000 passengers daily and reduce travel time between Manila and Bulacan from one hour and 30 minutes to just 35 minutes.
