The Philippine National Railways now has new trains after almost half a century of operations using old sets, photos on Monday showed.

Back in 2016, the PNR only had nine old trains. The first batch of new wagons arrived in December 2019, giving PNR two new train sets to ferry passengers for the FTI-Tutuban and FTI-Malabon routes, Tugade said.

These new trains enabled the railway line to add 18 to 20 more trips and additional 750 passengers ferried daily.

Ang mga bagong tren na ito ay parte ng Re-Fleeting Management Strategy ng PNR, na puspusan ‘ho nating isinasakatuparan upang makapagbigay ng mas kumportable at kumbinyenteng biyahe ang ating mga kababayan,” Transportation Sec. Arthur Tugade said in a Facebook post.

Eight more rail cars arrived in February 2020, forming two new trains for the PNR. In December 2020, passenger coaches from Indonesia arrived. The 15 passenger coaches have a water wading capacity that permits it to pass through flood and has a maximum design speed of 120kph.

Dahil dito, naiakyat ng PNR sa 1,250 na pasahero ang kapasidad nito sa bawat biyahe,” Tugade said.
