All modes of public transportation can now operate on full capacity under Alert Level 1 for the first time in two years, the Department of Transportation said as COVID-19 restrictions are eased in more areas in the country.
"Simula ika-1 ng Marso 2022 ay isasailalim na sa Alert Level 1 ang Metro Manila kung kaya’t tinaas na ang kapasidad ng pampublikong sasakyan mula sa 70% patungo sa 100% o full seating capacity sa mga pampublikong sasakyan," the DOTr said in a statement.
Metro Manila and other high-risk areas previously shut down all forms of public transport during the onset of the pandemic in March 2020 to prevent transmission.
With the introduction of quarantine classifcations and alert level systems, public transportation operated at limited capacity to make room for physical distancing.

According to Memorandum Circular 2022-028 from the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board, travel between a lower and higher alert level area will be subject to the seating capacity rules of the stricter alert level.
This means commuters coming from an Alert Level 1 area to work in an Alert Level 2 area must adhere to the 70% capacity rule.
Areas in Alert Level 2 are only allowed 70% seating capacity for public transportation.
Buses and jeeps may also drop the plastic barriers or dividers. Passengers, staff, and drivers are still required to wear "well-fitted face masks" in compliance with public health standards.
