Quezon City, one of the National Capital Region's most densely populated, said it gave cash incentives to villages that saw a sustained drop in COVID-19 infections.

The winning barangays succeeded in implementing the "trace-test-isolate-treat-reintegrate" strategy. The City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (CESU) also assessed the barrios, which received prize money based on category:

  • Sikatuna Village, Quirino 3B-Claro and Dioquino Zobel (small barangay) - P50,000
  • Sangandaan and Loyola Heights (medium) - P100,000
  • Sauyo and Fairview (large barangay) - P200,000

"This challenge has strengthened the collaboration between the CESU and the barangays to apply intensified contact tracing activities. By harmonizing our work and coordination with the barangays, we now have a vital tool that will help achieve our goal of zero new cases," CESU head Dr. Rolly Cruz said.
