If your area is under general community quarantine (GCQ), you won’t need to bring a quarantine pass starting June 1, Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya said on May 28.

President Rodrigo Duterte is yet to decide if modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) will extend or not, but should areas shift to GCQ, the public will no longer need to carry quarantine passes.

In an ABS-CBN report, Malaya confirmed that a local government unit (LGU) under GCQ will no longer need passes starting June 1: “If an LGU is now under GCQ, no need for barangay quarantine passes because hindi na lockdown.”

Earlier today, the Inter-Agency Task Force recommended that Metro Manila shift to GCQ.

Restrictions are eased under GCQ, but smaller areas may still be placed under lockdown, depending on how bad the situation gets.

DILG Secretary Eduardo Año previously said that villages, barangays, or streets could be placed under lockdown if they have a high risk of a COVID-19 outbreak.

Quezon City, which has 2,028 cases as of May 27, placed 34 barangays under lockdown starting May 20.

What about the travel pass?

You might not need a quarantine pass to go out during GCQ, but moving from one province or one region to another still requires a travel pass from the Philippine National Police (PNP).

"Moving from one province to another, and one region to another, kailangan pa din ng travel authority from PNP," Malaya said.
