Quezon City on Friday began adding "tamper-proof" security seals on COVID-19 vaccination cards issued in the city as a precautionary measure against the possible use of counterfeit ones.
Six vaccination sites administering second doses of COVID-19 vaccines started issuing the security seals, city mayor Joy Belmonte said. The initiative will persist until the national government implements a centralized vaccination certification system according to the city government.
“The security seal certifies that vaccination cards presented by their bearers as proof of having been fully vaccinated are authentic”, Belmonte said.
The hologram seals will be countersigned by an authorized representative of Quezon City's vaccination task force.
For those who have completed their COVID-19 vaccines prior to the roll-out of security seals, the city government said they could still secure the seals.
Those who completed their jabs in April can get the security seals from July 12-23 at the Century Hall of the Quezon City Memorial Circle. Schedules for those who completed their shots in May and June will soon be announced, the city government said.
The initiative comes as local government units expressed concerns on possible fraud of vaccine cards for travel purposes.
Malacañang earlier warned the public against forging vaccination cards, saying doing so can be considered as falsification of public documents.
