Reno Can Be Sold Again After It Secures FDA Registration

The liver spread brand is back.

Liver spread brand Reno can return to market after it secured product registration from the Food and Drug Administration, the head of the regulatory agency said Friday. 

The makers of Reno earlier apologized to the FDA and said it would secure a certificate of product registration as required. The document is a new requirement under the Food Safety Law.

Itong liver spread wala nang kulang na dokumento at pumasa sa ating panuntunan (This liver spread no longer lacks documents and passed standards),” FDA Director General Eric Domingo told TeleRadyo.

The FDA found that Reno was told in 2017 to register with the FDA but failed to comply, until the missing requirement was uncovered in early 2020. Until 2013, when the Food Safety Act took effect, Reno only needed to register with the National Meat Inspection Commission, not the FDA.

Short on inspectors, FDA inspectors thought a company as big as Reno would have complied, but it didn't. During random inspections, the food police goes for products that are either imported or packaged suspiciously.
