Ricky Lo, whose Philippine Star column for decades served as a source for showbiz scoops, has died at 75, his paper said Wednesday.
The cause of his passing was not immediately disclosed.
Lo's "Funfare" was born with the Star in 1986, when the restoration of democracy revived the free press. He steadily built a reputation for breaking news on who are breaking up, who is pregnant and who is switching to which channel.
The soft-spoken Lo took on everyone from Kris Aquino (he wrote in 2017 that Bimby Aquino Yap snubbed the birthday of half-brother MJ) to Nadine Lustre (he was first to write about the JaDine breakup).
"Funfare" was also just as popular for its blind items, sometimes with giveaway clues.
Lo parlayed his newspaper success to hosting stints on ABS-CBN's "The Buzz," GMA Network's "Startalk" and his own "Ricky Lo Exclusives" on QTV 11 (now GNTV).
