Vice President Leni Robredo said Tuesday she remained undecided on seeking the presidency next year, quashing talk that her statements expressing support for other opposition bets meant that she was giving up.
Robredo was quoted in recent reports that she was open to backing survey frontrunners Manila Mayor Isko Moreno and Sen. Manny Pacquiao should they run in tandem next year.
"Yes, if that will be the result of the discussions of the broadest coalition that we can form. Bukas ako sa kahit ano [that] will stop this kind of governance already," Robredo had told ANC, which earned a response from Pacquiao thanking the Vice President for her "trust".
Without directly addressing this, Robredo "clarified" on Twitter that her point in saying this was to emphasize the opposition's goal.
"Ang punto ko lang, malinaw and layunin ng lahat ng naniniwala sa makatao at maayos na pamamahala: ang palitan ang kasalukuyang kalakaran. Kailangan tayong handang makiisa at magkaisa para sa layuning ito," she said.
Robredo previously said she was hesitant to run given how "too much is at stake in 2022" for her to just decide with her "low" survey numbers that suggest how she could fare in the elections.
Trailing Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio and Manila Mayor Isko Moreno in the June 7 to 16 Pulse Asia survey, Robredo at the time said should the numbers stay that low, running wasn't viable for her. She, however, acknowledged how there's clamor from supporters urging her to run.
"Nananatili akong bukas sa pagtakbo kung iyon ang ikabubuti ng ating bayan," she said.
