Sabong is Allowed Under Alert Level 2, Cashless Betting Required

Traditional cockfighting can resume under COVID-19 Alert Level 2, Malacañang said Wednesday as the government kept the entire country under the second-lowest form of pandemic restrictions.

Cockpits can resume operations as long as concerned local government units allow them to and provided that digital betting is observed, Cabinet Sec. Karlo Nograles said.

"Hindi na puwedeng tumaya na nagsisigawan," Nograles told reporters.

The entire Philippines is under Alert Level 2 until the end of the year as COVID-19 cases continue to drop nationwide.

Here are the other conditions set by the government for the resumption of cockfighting:

1. Maximum 50% venue capacity for fully vaccinated individuals only

2. All onsite workers need to be fully vaccinated

3. Betting shall be cashless using technology-based platforms. No physical exchange of cash is allowed anywhere in the cockpit and verbal placing of bets is prohibited

4. Minimum public health standards and technology-based betting should strictly be enforced and observed
