Civic leader Samira Gutoc-Tomawis and entrepreneur Carl Balita will run for senator under Manila Mayor Isko Moreno's ticket after they were sworn in as members of the Aksyon Demokratiko party on Monday.
Gutoc-Tomawis was a former member of the Bangsamoro Transition Commission before she ran for senator under the Otso Diretso coalition in 2019, placing 25th in the polls.
"Natutuwa ako ngayon na may kandidatong senador galing sa Mindanao, galing sa ating mga kababayang Muslim sa Mindanao. I am happy and honored," Moreno said during the oath taking.
Balita is a registered nurse and a radio show host who owns the Dr. Carl Balita Review Center.
"'Pag tumutukod tayo sa tosgas (gastos), isipin n'yo na lang ang bayan, ang tao naghahanap naman ng iba, maiba naman," Moreno told those who took their oath under their ticket.
"Walang inaasahan ang mamamayan kundi ang kanilang pamahalaan. We'll do our best in our own little way, maitaguyod, bigyan ng direkyon ang mga susunod na panahon."
