Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio ignored calls for her to run for president as the Comelec closed registration for national candidates without the incumbent's daughter filing her certificate of candidacy.

Movers of "Run Sara Run" wore green on Friday, the deadline of filing certificates of candidacy for president, to convince Sara to succeed her father, President Rodrigo Duterte. The younger Duterte said she would rather focus on reelection for her third and last term as mayor of their hometown.

"I am presenting myself to the Dabawenyos as Mayor for the third and last time in my life as a politician," she said in a statement Friday.

Earlier, her father President Duterte floated a tandem between the Davao City mayor and his former aide Sen. Bong Go, who is running for vice president under PDP-Laban.

A total of 97 aspirants filed their candidacies for president according to the Comelec.

The President's eldest daughter and political heiress, Duterte-Carpio is the top choice for president based on the latest September survey of Pulse Asia. She has been a consistent frontrunner in presidential surveys for months.

The father and daughter had previously said they agreed that only one Duterte would seek a national position in the 2022 elections but both of them did not file any candidacy for 2022.

Duterte only endorsed the vice presidential bid of his former aide Sen.Bong Go as he announced his retirement from politics. Duterte's political party, PDP-Laban, instead fielded Sen. Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa as its presidential candidate.

Throughout her father's presidency, Duterte-Carpio played the role of first lady whenever called upon, and has played vital roles in the ouster of two House Speakers -- that of Pantaleon Alvarez, and Alan Peter Cayetano.

Duterte-Carpio has “definitely” established herself as a kingmaker—but there could also be more in it for her according to political analyst Ramon Casiple.

“She’s not just a kingmaker, she wants to be the queen too,” Casiple told reportr in a previous interview.

Should Duterte-Carpio change her mind, she can still substitute for party presidential aspirants until Nov. 15.
