Vice President Sara Duterte-Carpio has been designated as the officer-in-charge of the government while President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. is in Indonesia and Singapore for a four-day state visit.
From Sept. 4 to 7, Duterte-Carpio will take over the operations in the Office of the President and act for or on behalf of Marcos if necessary, according to a Special Order No. 75 issued by Malacañang.

"To ensure continuity of government service, it is necessary to designate an Officer-in-Charge to take care of the day-to-day operations in the Office of the President and oversee the general administration of the Executive Department," the order read.
All departments, agencies, and instrumentalities of the government are tasked to assist Duterte-Carpio in performing her functions as officer-in-charge.
All acts undertaken by Duterte-Carpio for or on behalf of Marcos during her time as officer-in-charge will also be deemed acts of the President, unless he disapproved or reprobated them.
It will be Duterte-Carpio's first time to act as officer-in-charge of the government as Marcos embarked on his first state visits. Aside from being vice president, Duterte-Carpio also heads the Department of Education.
Previous vice presidents were not given the same assignment by their presidents during overseas trips, such as Leni Robredo and Jejomar Binay, showing how the dynamics of the two highest government officials can be different when they ran under the same ticket.

During the administrations of former Presidents Rodrigo Duterte and Benigno Aquino III, the day-to-day operations of the Office of the President were left mostly to their respective executive secretaries --- Salvador Medialdea and Paquito Ochoa Jr.
Marcos will be in Indonesia from Sept. 4 to 6 and in Singapore from Sept. 6 to 7 to seek agreements and forge stronger ties with the two ASEAN countries.
