Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte on Saturday filed her certificate of candidacy for reelection, her spokesperson said, while in Manila, her father, President Rodrigo Duterte announced his retirement from politics.

This left no one from the Duterte family seeking the presidency or the vice presidency in 2022. The president endorsed his longtime aide, Sen. Bong Go, as vice presidential candidate in his stead. The Comelec allows substitutions until mid-November.

"Yes, I can confirm that Mayor Sara Duterte has filed her Certificate of Candidacy for Mayor of Davao City," Liloan, Cebu Mayor Christina Frasco told reportr.

"Like the other millions of Filipinos, I share with you the same goal of living a peaceful and prosperous life in our country, today and in the many years to come. I call on everyone to work together for an honest, orderly, and credible elections in May 2022," the Davao mayor said in a post on Saturday, sharing photos of her filing her certificate of candidacy.
