Do You Need a Second Booster After Recovering From COVID?

How to increase your defenses during the omicron surge.

People who got COVID-19 after their booster vaccines don't need to get a second booster jab for now, the Department of Health said, citing the need to vaccinate the general population.

Those who develop COVID-19 symptoms or test positive should wait until they are well before getting vaccinated, said Dr. Beverly Ho, director of DOH's Health Promotion and Communication Service. 

In case an undiagnosed COVID patient gets a booster while ill, the jab will still help lower the risk of hospitalization or death, she said.

Can You Get a Booster Shot While COVID Positive?

Those experiencing COVID-like symptoms or tested positive for the coronavirus should follow this set of guidelines before booking a booster schedule:

  • It has been three months since your second dose of AstraZeneca, Pfizer, Sinovac, or Sputnik or two months after your single dose of Janssen vaccine
  • You finished your prescribed isolation period
  • You did not have fever for the last 24 hours even without taking fever medication
  • Your respiratory symptoms (like coughs and colds) have improved

The Philippines has fully inoculated 56 million people, of which 5.3 million received their booster shots, according to the National COVID-19 Vaccination Dashboard as of Jan. 18.
