The Philippines on Saturday logged 23,134 more COVID-19 cases as it localized lockdowns down to the community level until the end of September.

This brought total active cases to 184,088, and the cumulative total since the pandemic started to 2,347,550. There were 255 deaths and 27,024 new recoveries, bringing the running totals to 36,583 and 2,126,879.

The cases were tallied on the second day of Metro Manila's new alert level system that localized lockdowns until Sept. 30. All cities and one municipality in the capital region are under Alert Level 4, the second strictest under a five-step system.

Mayors can place specific streets or barangays under lockdown depending on number of cases.
