The Toll Regulatory Board said Wednesday it was still studying the proposed toll rates for the Skyway Stage 3, after its builder, San Miguel sought a maximum P274.

“Yun po ay kasalukuyang pinag-aaralan pa sa ngayon at sinusuri ng mabuti ng ating tanggapan at ng ating pamunuan ang basehan nitong kanilang proposal,” TRB spokesperson Julius Corpuz told Teleradyo.

San Miguel opened the elevated expressway to motorists in late December, with passage completely free until the end of January.

Several factors dictate the final toll. According to Corpuz, these include contstruction costs, expected traffic, and operating and maintenance costs within the concession period.

“Proposal pa lamang po ito. Hindi po nangangahulugan na itong pin-proposed nila ay yan na ang magiging pinal na toll fee. Dadaan pa yan sa masusing pag-aaral,” he said.

Corpuz assured the public that final prices will be announced prior to implementation.

Free for medical frontliners

San Miguel said medical practitioners and frontliners contributing to COVID-19 efforts can use the Skyway Stage 3 for free indefinitely, the same way they have been allowed to use all SMC expressways toll-free since quarantines started in March 2020.

“This time of pandemic, we need to help our country, our fellow Filipinos, and each other, as much as we can. We have been providing this courtesy to our medical practitioners non-stop, because it’s our way of honoring them and thanking them for their selfless efforts to save lives and to help us survive this crisis,” SMC president Ramon Ang said.
